Projects

An important part of WOCAD's activities are the different projects we run. WOCAD's projects can be described as spanning "from cradle to grave", meaning that the target groups are girls and women of all ages. Many of our projects are well-known and have been running for several years, e.g. BellaNet the national/international network for girl group leaders. The projects are often run in collaboration with our member organisations and/or researchers. A few words about two of our projects

BellaNet – The National/International Network for Girl Group Leaders

The purpose of BellaNet is to strengthen, stimulate and develop girl group leaders who work with drug prevention. The network was started in Sweden in 2004 by WOCAD, and today connects girl group leaders from all of Sweden's 21 counties. In 2009 BellaNet also opened up to international members who work to empower teenage girls. That same year the project's internet forum www.bellanet.se was validated by the EU-commission as a useful activity in EAD/European Action on Drugs. In 2010 BellaNet International received a certificate of recognition from the Council of Europe Pompidou Group, for innovative drug preventive work.

Marketing aimed at girls

WOCAD is concerned about the high number of girls who smoke, and the aggressive marketing – aimed at girls -of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Research has shown that there is a connection between early smoking debut and risk of developing addictions of alcohol and other drugs. WOCAD considers it to be of utmost importance to strengthen girls/young women and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The project "Marketing aimed at girls" focuses on creating awareness about the mechanisms of marketing, the extent of the problem and the consequences for young women's health. WOCAD's book The pink monster focuses on these issues, and works as a guide for inspiring girls to activity and reflection.
